HB1633 Passes House Commerce Committee. House Vote Expected February 22nd 2024

Last week, while we were all braving the cold snap, the House Commerce Committee passed HB1633 as amended with a 17-3 vote. This is the first big step for cannabis legalization here in NH.

Representatives Erica Layon (R) and Anita Burroughs (D), the main sponsors of the bill, should be commended for the amazing amount of work and coordination that went into amending the original bill to better address the Governor’s publicly stated requirements and gather support in both the sub-committee and full committee.

The amendment cleaned up some items, clarified others and integrated some of the best language that came from the Cannabis Commission’s hard work, improving the bill even further.

The full House of Representatives are expected to vote on the bill Thursday 2/22/24 and should stream the session here on YouTube. If the bill passes, it may either go to the House Ways & Means Committee or be waived through to the Senate.

We’ve updated the legalization tracker from 30% to 40% as we await Thursday’s important vote in the House.
