U.S. House Passes the SAFE Banking Act

T

his week the House of Representatives finally passed the SAFE Banking Act, providing the cannabis industry much needed access proper, safer banking.

According to a report at Fox Business, the bill passed late Wednesday afternoon by a vote of 321 to 103.

“I am proud to bring this legislation to the Floor, but I believe it does not go far enough,” said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. “This must be a first step toward the decriminalization and de-scheduling of marijuana, which has led to the prosecution and incarceration of far too many of our fellow Americans for possession.”

The next step for the bill is the Republican-controlled Senate where there is a chance it might be amended in order to pass. Fox reports “it is not clear if President Donald Trump would sign any version that reaches his desk.”
